Alex Shahbazi

(he/him)

Principal & Founder

Alex is a lifelong conservationist, writer, and change advocate. Growing up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, nature and collaborative communities coursed through his veins. After traveling and living across the country and around the world, Alex now focuses on bettering the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Alex holds an M.A. in International Environmental Policy specializing in Natural Resources Policy & Management from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Along with his graduate degree, Alex completed a B.A. in Physics at Lawrence University and has certifications in Design, Partnering, Management and Innovation from Root Change and as a Certified Interpretive Guide with the National Association of Interpretation.

World Wildlife Fund

  • Authored a published report recommending high seas management and governance best practices for WWF’s observership with the parties to the Central Arctic Ocean Fisheries Agreement

  • Reviewed progress of the 10-year Circumpolar Action Plan of the Polar Bear Range States

  • Authored a report detailing next steps for multilateral polar bear conservation

  • Leading a comprehensive literature review of Arctic co-production for ultimate submission for peer-reviewed publication

  • Created and produces the Out of the Arctic podcast

truckee meadows parks foundation

  • Managed an online, community resource detailing the region’s wildlife and 200+ parks

  • Expanded the Parks Foundation’s biodiversity and history volunteer programs from 3 to over 40 volunteers.

  • Organized and facilitated the propagation of over 1,000 trees for planting in local parks and restoration sites

  • Developed and led interpretive training sessions for staff and AmeriCorps members

  • Engaged over 35,000 guests annually in wildlife, climate change, science, and conservation

  • Developed and implemented an educational virtual reality tour for the zoo’s Nature Boardwalk

  • Mentored, coached, and trained 2 Guest Engagement Fellows annually and over 50 weekly Guest Engagement Volunteers

  • Led zoo-wide sustainability campaigns as Chair of the Sustainability Committee’s Awareness Working Group
